Buying footwear online can be tricky. With the infinite variety of styles, it can be a headache shopping around before you decide to take the plunge.

This is why we want to share some detailed information on our boots sizes, so you can make a better-informed decision when buying them online; whether it’s on our store or at Amazon. So here are a few tips to keep in mind when purchasing a pair of ALTAI™ boots and you can always contact us directly for specific sizing questions.

Men for year-round wear order a half size down
Men with wide feet order their regular size as if the boots were labeled “wide”
Men for very cold weather order their regular size to fit a thick, warm sock
Women for year-round wear order a size and a half down

ALTAI™ Update: Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA)

This Friday, December 7^th, we will be in Detroit, kicking off our new sponsorship of an important organization: the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA). We are honored to be part of this group that focuses on support for our federal law enforcement professionals

FLEOA represents over 26,000 federal law enforcement officers, spanning over 65 agencies and it is the largest nonprofit organization to do so. ALTAI™ Testimonial: Sean “SPYRO” Riggs

It’s not every day we receive a testimonial quite like Sean “SPYRO” Riggs’. As an amputee paintballer and a remarkable athlete by any standard, we were ecstatic to hear the following, real-world experience with our boots on the field.

“Friday: I wore my currently daily boots to the event. They are from Walmart and are functionally doing what they need for the most part. I slipped in the 6-8” mud as well as had terrible traction.

Saturday: I wore my new 511 side zip boots bought as I was told they would do everything I needed. Water and mud got into the boot from the side zipper and traction was no better than the day before.

Now typically by the end of the day Saturday I am exhausted and participating on Sunday is tough on my body. When I got home sat night your boots were on my porch and my wife and I decided there was no better test run than this.

I opened the box and as before the packaging was well done and I was pleased to see the side zip. It took a bit to get my prosthetic into the boot which is typical with new boots but it did fit. The first thing we noticed was how high they went which was a positive both for support and the weekend’s mud. Again the large laces and steel eyelets made lacing the boots up easier for me.

The next morning it had started raining again and we set out. I immediately noticed I had better traction and grip on the ground. As I walked through the same mud as I had with two different pairs of boots the last two days I did not have the seepage as I had before. The boots were also slightly lighter which helped me to not be as exhausted. All this from wearing them just one day and for about 5 hours. I can’t wait to try them out more and be all that I am wanting to be on the paintball field again. Thank you.”

ALTAI™ Hero Spotlight Update: Tyler The Donut Boy’s Reverse Birthday Party

Last week, our pint-sized hero, Tyler Carach, aka The Donut Boy, celebrated his birthday in a unique, heart-warming way: a reverse birthday.

What does a reverse birthday celebration look like? Well, instead of Tyler celebrating his own birthday, his birthday festivities revolved around thanking police officers!

Tyler’s Reverse Birthday Celebration was hosted by Pensacola Police Department where Tyler was able to thank surrounding area police officers, along side none other than the Harlem Globe Trotters. The Reverse Birthday Celebration had a wonderful turn out and Tyler couldn’t be happier with how this act of gratitude ended up.

Tyler began his journey two years ago to thank every law enforcement officer in America with a donut, one donut at a time. Well over 70,000 donuts later, Tyler has continued to go above and beyond for law enforcement officers, fire fighters, and other important first responders.

ALTAI™ Pro Tip: 3 Simple Tips On How To Prevent Hiking Injuries

Prevention is the first step to enjoying long hiking excursions injury free. And while we build our boots to be incredibly lightweight and no break-in period to help, here are a few exercises and stretches to get you even more prepped and keep you trekking comfortably.

Ankle Strengthening

Heel raises are an easy way to strengthen your ankles. Using a chair, or similar sturdy object, for balance, slowly raise one heel up, standing on your tiptoes, then slowly lower the heel to the ground. Repeat for each leg 10 times and try to do a set at least a few times throughout the day.

Taping

With quality athletic tape, you can add extra support; especially for those with previous injuries that may hinder full stability while on the trail. Some basic taping techniques can be found here or speak to a physician about what would be a suitable application for you.

Calf Stretches

Facing a wall, place both hands on the wall and bring one foot backwards 6 inches, knee bent, then slowly bring the heel down to the ground. You should feel a pull all along the lower and upper calf. This is also a recommended stretch for post-hiking or related activities.
