ALTAI™ Hero Spotlight: Grand Rapids Police Throw Birthday Party for Bullied Child

Today we put the Hero Spotlight on a very special story involving the Grand Rapids Police and a 9 year old boy’s birthday. Young Thomas Daniel was seen missing his school bus but what started out to be rough morning, turned into a memorable celebration.

Officer Austin Lynema noticed Thomas’ misfortune and while helping him get to school, learned that it was Thomas’ birthday. And while he was excited to celebrate, he believed that no one would show up; due to being bullied at school. So instead, he invited the entire Grand Rapids Police Department to his birthday party.

Later on, Officer Lynema discovered that Thomas’ fears were correct; no one had shown up for his birthday except for Officer Lynema himself and Thomas’ siblings. The Grand Rapids hero decided to turn things around for the boy.

The next day, Grand Rapids Police threw a surprise birthday, customized Krispy Kreme donuts and all, for Thomas. “People at school are happy for me because Austin … he never lets kids down, he’s a hero,” said Daniel. “I’ll never forget this until the day I die.”

ALTAI™ Law Enforcement Highlight of the Week

This week, we have a Law Enforcement Highlight that will bring some laughter, despite this bitter winter weather. In Jordan Minnesota, police received a call to check on the welfare of a possibly deranged man. The caller described the man as standing outside, motionless, in the cold, with no coat, hugging a pillow. Now, if you know Minnesota winter’s, this is certainly deranged behavior; the caller was advised to let police check on the individual, not knowing what possible dangers could present themselves.

As officers arrived on the scene, they discovered this man as the possible adult in need of assistance. If you have any further information on this individual, please post to Jordan Police Department.

ALTAI™ Hero Spotlight Update: Tyler the Donut Boy

It’s hard to believe that only two years ago, we met and partnered with this amazing 10 year old, Tyler Carach, a Florida boy who is on an important mission: thanking every cop and first responder in America, one donut at a time.

Since then, Tyler’s organization, I Donut Need A Reason To Thank A Cop, has given away over 70,000 donuts to law enforcement officers in 39 states! Here are a few snapshots of his latest journey to Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana! Follow Tyler on Facebook for up-to-date info on his next adventure thanking cops; Tyler may be visiting your local police department sooner than you think!

ALTAI™ Hero Spotlight: Catching up with the Donut Boy

It’s 2018 and more than 22,000 donuts later, Tyler Carach of “I Donut Need A Reason To Thank A Cop” is gearing up for another generous act: thanking every cop in America. It all started a few years ago when Tyler spotted some police officers at a gas station for a routine fill-up with his mother, Sheena Carach. Tyler asked Sheena for permission to buy the officers donuts as a gesture of gratitude for their dedication and service; the rest is history.

While Tyler’s cause was gaining attention (Tyler landed a spot on The Steve Harvey Show! and even this spotlight by Lifezette.com) the pint-sized hero worked hard at earning money himself to buy more donuts to give away by taking on extra chores, and even gathering and selling scrap metal, to fund his selfless cause.

Now 10 years old, Tyler has come a long way in spreading love to the men and women in blue. 2018 promises a busy schedule of donut-giving, including a trip to Alaska to visit police departments out there (a long journey for the Florida based family!).

Here at ALTAI™, we stand behind Tyler’s charitable efforts and donate 2% of all sales on department-approved boots towards his cause. You can find more ways to get behind this heart-warming story of thanking police officers on our website.

ALTAI™ Hero Update: Tyler the Donut Boy continues his journey

Time to check in with the heart-warming journey of Tyler, the Donut Boy, and his family on his mission to thank every police officer in the country!

Stopping in Ellijay, GA, Tyler got to tour the local Police Department and the local Sheriff’s Office while they were gearing up for 4th of July festivities. Officers taught Tyler how to operate the x-ray machine and he definitely got his use with the metal detector wand (especially on his mom!). Donuts given away: 84 donuts, 5 dozen bought by Tyler himself and 2 dozen donated by Dunkin’ Donuts.

Next, in Asheville, NC, where Tyler and his family had summer fun on the slip and slide with Officer Joe Jones, a storm came to town and taught everyone an important lesson. While enjoying a waterfall swim, Tyler and his family had to run for cover as a nasty storm approached. Tyler’s mom broke her flip flop on her way to grab the family truck and had to think fast; she added an ALTAI™ boot to the shoe-less foot and, eventually the other, and rescued the family just in time. Wise words spoken from Tyler’s mom about the experience, “You have to look at every experience as an adventure, you can choose to be upset but that will not change anything, so you might as well laugh.” Truth.

Onto Pigeon Forge, TN and Tyler’s family safely visits town. Tyler was able to meet a local K9 who took a particular liking to him, normally indifferent of most people, but this dog can tell a good soul when he smells one! This was also a special trip as he was issued my own Junior Deputy ID card, via the Pigeon Forge Police Department. Donuts given away: 240 donuts donated by Krispy Kreme.

For more updates on Tyler’s journey, follow his Facebook page and to step up and contribute, every pair of department-approved ALTAI™ boots donate 2% of sales to Tyler’s cause, thanking every cop in the country with a donut. For other ways to help, contact us today!
